Davis Academy has been the recipient of this award for the past two years.
Connecticut Invention Convention
Our school participates in a district and statewide Connecticut Invention Convention. Six students received a district award and moved up to the state semi-finals in 2024, and Marsela Rashidy's third grade class took home first place.
Staff Awards
Several members of our staff has been recognized for their outstanding achievements:
In 2025, 5th grade Math and Science Teacher Lauren Dooley received the Curriculum Associates Extraordinary Educator award for creating a classroom environment that is as innovative, engaging and effective; fostering reflection, creativity, and inclusivity among her students. She really helps her students grow. She's not just about the facts, she's also super supportive and encouraging. This helps kids learn not just for tests, but for the rest of their lives.
Davis Magnet Resource Teacher, Victoria Raucci, was a recipient of the UConn Neag School of Education and Rogers Educational Innovation Award based on the proposal project, "Davis Academy for Arts & Design Innovation School Clubs Program." The award included $5,000 to support the implementation of our clubs, which were designed to boost attendance and promote student engagement.
In May 2023, Davis's Mary-Lynn Gambardella's second grade class won a second place district award in the New Haven Science Fair for its collaborative inventive process in creating a prototype of a robot to clean the classroom.
In 2023, Grade 6 teacher Naomi Jones won an award from the Prodigy program for science and mathematics as a rising star in teaching and use of the program for interactive games, fluency programs, and investigation/projects.
In 2022, paraprofessional Adrianne Douglas received the Legacy Award from United Way of Greater New Haven for leading awareness and contributions to invest in the future of the community. In 2023, paraprofessional William Fluker received this award.
Student Awards
In 2022, an 8th grade student was awarded with a Rising Star Award through Educators through Excellence. She also won 2nd place in the District's Power of Bilingualism Contest for Students Grades 6-8.
In 2022, a grade 1 student won first place and a grade 2 student won second place in the district's Power of Bilingualism Contest for Students Grades K-2.
